Cassandra's Summer Learning Journey: Week 3, Day 5, Activity 1 - 2019

  1. Hi Cassandra,

It's Leslie from the Summer Learning Journey team, reading your blog about smog - that rhymes!

Good for you - you've made a very good list of 3 things you've learned about smog. It's a little shocking how dangerous air pollution can be, isn't it? I feel very lucky to live in a place where the air quality is very good. I live in a rural part of Ontario, in a small town. We don't have industries in our area, polluting the air.

I grew up in a big city, however, called Toronto. There are days when Toronto is covered in smog, largely because of the pollution produced by cars. When you have millions of cars being driven around the city every day, it's very hard not to have smog!

Fortunately there are new laws being made that require car manufacturers to find ways to reduce the amount of fossil fuel (gas) used by cars and to find ways to reduce the amount of exhaust each car produces. Perhaps one day we'll all be driving electric cars!

Have you ever been in a place where there's smog? I hope not! Auckland is such a beautiful city - I hope it never develops that problem!!

Good work on this activity! Keep it up! I'll look forward to reading more of your postings!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
