Cassandra's Summer Learning Journey: week 1, day 3, activity 1 - 2019 (Happy New Year!)

  1. Hi Cassandra,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog from cold and snowy Canada as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

Because it's the middle of winter here and very cold (-35 C today), I can only imagine what Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay experienced as they climbed Mt. Everest. Wow - that is such a huge accomplishment!!

I think your questions are super. I particularly like the question about how he felt when he was halfway up the mountain. I suspect anyone would have doubts about whether or not they should keep going in really difficult conditions!!! I suspect he did too!

And I love your question about how he would have felt about being famous enough to be depicted on the 5 dollar note. He has passed away now so we can't ask him these questions, unfortunately, but I suspect was surprised by the fame that he had earned. I don't think he climbed the mountain to be famous but rather to have the sense of accomplishment.

Are there things that you do that you find hard but that you work at anyway? It's always very satisfying to work through difficulty and come out the other side, I find. So setting a goal and doing the hard work to get there is an important thing to do sometimes.

I hope you're enjoying fun and challenges this summer, perhaps learning new skills on your holidays. And I hope you're feeling really pleased with yourself for working so hard at this Summer Learning Journey program.

    I'm enjoying reading your blog!!

    Cheers,

    Leslie

  2. Good Afternoon Leslie,

I love that you keep leaving me kind polite comments. Wow, Canada seems freezing almost everyday. Do you prefer staying inside where it's nice and warm, or going outside in the cool weather?

I agree with you, I think Sir. Edmund Hilary climbed Mt. Everest for accomplishment. I am sure he was very proud of himself when he reached the top. I wish he hadn't passed away so I could meet him and ask him more questions. Hmmm, I wonder what all his answers would be.

Do you have any questions for Edmund Hilary? If you do, what are they?

    Thanks,
    Cassandra
